Kaede is the soft-spoken, well-meaning shy bishoujo who shares the same class with the main lead, Takahara Shinichi, and is also the number one object of desire for every guy in heir school. She's the embodiment of yamato nadeshiko, to an extent (though you should take that with a grain of salt), according to every male in their school. She's also smart, excels in her academics, and is just about friendly with everyone, thanks to the smile that she never seems to lose. Kaede's also very good at cooking, though the guys don't know this, and even Shinichi was surprised when Kaede demonstrated her cooking prowess to him after she moved in.
She's also part of the Tea Ceremony Club , Where she works hard in making good tea. She's near-perfect, but Kaede herself doesn't admit to this and will be quite embarrassed should it be pointed out to her.
Aside from her school role, she's also known as the Miko of the Tsukimiya Shrine. Kaede is trying her best to become a good exorcist, but according to her family, her potential is nowhere near close to being a good exorcist, and she should just stick to her usual miko duties, such as tending to the shrine, selling charms and prayers and whatnot.
Shinichi and Kaede were always in the same class up to now, though he's never really had a chance to talk to her ( or so he thinks). His first talk with her was when she approached him after class, where she brought up the topic of Shinichi's "curse". She claimed that she heard about Shinichi's predicament from God, and that she wanted to help purify Shinichi's curse, after much stuttering, blushing and mojimoji-ing. Though, when she was to bring up the manner of how to remove the curse from him, Shinichi ran off and left her alone in the classroom out of embarrassment .
A lot of the events that involve Kaede are hilarious, with sickeningly sweet moments. For example, during lunchtime, Ai-chan will usually rush over to Shinichi's classroom and share her bento with him. Kaede takes this moment as an opportunity to show her gratitude to Shinichi for allowing her to move in with him, and she offers to likewise share her bento… only, we're talking about "Yome One" here.
Naturally, as a result, the guys end up making their death glares and killing intents known to Shinichi, though Kaede's oblivious to the entire thing. As Shinichi thinks to himself:
Here is the Palace has declined, it is happy with the lunch time is not bad. No, this academy class…… many of the boys and I see no cause a rift in the friendship you afraid. た。 A jealous man who burned a picture of his opponent afloat vanished. …… This EEEEEE…….
He accepts Kaede’s offer, though, and can’t help but wonder why (in the usual dense harem protagonist manner) why Kaede is always blushing, stuttering and mojimoji -ing around him. Scenes like these are both hilarious and ridiculously sweet, if you take into account Kaede’s character. Also, her spiritual potential is actually much greater than that of Erika’s, and even Erika herself accedes to this fact after a certain event in the game when the two of them try to purify an evil spirit, which originally came from Shinichi’s room, that had possessed Ryouto. Though Kaede was unable to handle the spirit at first and was knocked unconscious, she easily cut it down after it posed a threat to Shinichi, which surprised Erika.

What sealed the deal for me, though, was Kaede’s confession. It accurately depicts just why Kaede behaves this way towards Shinichi, shy yet protective at the same time. Back when they were just kids, Kaede was often bullied by a group of boys. Unable to tell anyone else, she put up with their bullying, and she cried a lot afterwards.
During a rainy day, her favorite umbrella was missing, and she started to cry because she couldn’t handle the thought of losing something that she liked so much. A boy, upset (pissed off is the right term here, actually) with her crying demanded to know why she was crying in the first place. After many sobs and apologies, Kaede blurted out that it was because a group of boys took it, and the boy asked her if they were still around. He left after she told him that she saw them in their classroom right before she found out that her umbrella was gone, and when he returned, slightly injured and bruised, he brought her umbrella along with him. After that, he becomes her first ever friend, and she invites him to their Shrine so they could play together. Kaede tries to make him tea, but he finds it too bitter and tells her to just do better at it next time. Then they talk about the shrine's affairs, in which Kaede corrects Shinichi's perception of mikos as maids of a Shinto Shrine. He then brings up the possibility of Kaede becoming an independent miko, to which Kaede says is an impossiblity. According to her family , Kaede is unable to become a miko because of her low spiritual ability, her fear of ghosts, and that girls like her who are born into such families are doomed to become normal girls, and Shinichi objects to this.
He confidently tells her that she’ll definitely become an independent miko with the ability to vanquish any ghost, and that all her assumptions about her being a disappointment are all unfounded simply because she’s thinking what everyone else thinks.
If she thinks that her power is wonderful, then it’ll definitely be wonderful. She should also stop crying and just smile instead, because it’ll help her feel better and make more friends. After all, the reason why she was bullied in the first place was because she was pretty…though Shinichi actually think that she’s gloomy-natured, and this he tells her after she asks him as to what he thinks of her. Then he just tells her to smile, and to be polite and respectful with people. In the end, it's all because of Shinichi's efforts that Kaede ended up becoming the way she is right now: near-perfect, popular, and known as "Yome One", the ideal bride of every guy in their campus.
however, knows not too take itself too seriously, and it shows, as it even pokes fun at Kaede's long-standing crush on Shinichi. While taking down Shinichi's measurements for a Christmas present that Kaede was knitting, he took notice of her notepad, which contained various information on Shinichi, much to Kaede's embarassment. He makes a remark: "Stalker?" to which Kaede almost dies out of embarassment, as it's from all those times she's observed him from the sidelines.
